Middle Earth Strategy Battle Game
Tom's Day Out
Saturday, April 1
"Old Tom Bombadil is a merry fellow, bright blue his jacket is, and his boots are yellow. None have ever caught him yet, for Tom, he is the master: His songs are stronger songs, and his feet are faster."
—The Fellowship of the Ring
The Citizens of Atomic Empire cordially invite you to our first one-day tournament for the Middle Earth Strategy Battle Game. We, the hosting parties, request the pleasure of your company at our humble store in Durham, NC on the 1st of April in the year 2023.
Event Details:
Tables will be set up with terrain so no modifications to terrain will be allowed without the tournament organizer’s permission or after the first game begins.
Scenarios will be chosen using the veto system. Each round players will be given a pool of missions from the Matched Play Guide and alternate vetoing missions. Each Round players will roll off. The player who rolls highest may elect to take either the first veto or choose which list to play (should they have the option). If the highest rolling player chooses to veto - then the opposing player will select their faction (see: List Restrictions) so that both players have factions determined prior to the veto process. If the highest rolling player chooses their faction - then the opposing player will select their first veto as they would be playing the opposing faction. In either case, players alternate eliminating one of the missions from the provided pool until only one remains. This may result in tables playing different missions but it will ensure they are of a similar theme each round.
Lists can be submitted via email to byerswarhammer@gmail.com on or before March 26th and it is requested that you bring a hard copy of your list to the event.
Scoring during the tournament will be per the Additional Rules from the Matched Play Guide.
Resources permitting, it is possible that Old Tom may bring with him some of his furry footed friends in one round or another - should they wander on to your table they will behave as neutral sentries attempting to cross the board and may reward extra VP to their captors! Any captured persons may be treated as light objects.
Further Notes:
If you are interested in bringing terrain, paint judging, submitting painting exemptions, being added to the waitlist, expressing concerns regarding any particular model/proxy, or sponsoring/donating prizes, please contact me at: byerswarhammer@gmail.com.

While a display board is not required- having some form of suitable presentation for your army will be factored into the overall score for best painted. An example of the rubric can be found here: link
The Fool:
All armies, where possible, must include a “Fool.” The Fool must meet the following criteria:- Be a minor unnamed or named hero with a combined Wounds+Might+Will+Fate of less than 3.
- While alive, the Fool provides a 12” Aura (Passive) of +1 Courage so long as they are not a passenger. Should your army become broken, the Fool automatically passes the first courage test required. (As though they were a hero of Legend)
- The Fool suffers -1 to their duel rolls, as they are too busy goofing off to properly engage in a fight!
- Should the Fool be slain, at the start of the following turn his army may choose to Avenge Them! Granting them rerolls to all duel rolls for the turn.
- Should the Fool Survive to the end of the battle, the army will gain an additional VP.
Registration cutoff is 3/26/23.
This event is capped at 30 players.
