Conquest: The Last Argument of Kings
Winter '23 Escalation League
January 22 through March 18
Conquest: The Last Argument of Kings is a mass battle wargame produced by Para Bellum Wargames. The rules are quick and easy to learn for a new player but are still able to offer a new and complex strategy to master. Conquest focuses its play around the command stack mechanic, where each player determines at the beginning of the round what order his troops are going to be activated in. Coupled with a unique escalation reinforcement mechanic, the fog of war is a very real thing.
Structure: This league will run 8 weeks, from January 22 through March 18. During that time period, you will play 4 games of Conquest: The Last Argument of Kings, one game every-other week.
Entry: $20
Army Composition: Any model with rules in your Army List is allowed. Substituted and unofficial models are allowed, especially for models that have not yet been released officially, so long as (a) you make clear what each model represents and (b) all models are in correctly-sized trays.
Your army's point value will increase slowly over the course of the league, as follows:
Scheduling: For each 2-week period of the league, you will be assigned an opponent. It is up to each pair of players to find a time that works for them. This will be coordinated via the Central NC Conquest Group Discord Server. If two players are unable to arrange a game, one may concede to the other (if they feel at fault for the scheduling problems). Otherwise, it will be considered a draw.
Reporting: Standings and pairings will be posted to the Longshanks page for this event, as well as to the Discord server. When you finish a game, please report the final score on Longshanks (by clicking Edit Game) or sending a message to Shane (Zetan#8498) on Discord. When possible, please try to get a photo or two of your game in progress, and send those to Shane as well!
Scenarios: This event will use the official Scenario Pack released on December 7, 2022. We will use scenarios 2, 8, 9, and 11 as listed above.
Prizes: Store credit, with amount depending on number of participants. If more than one player is undefeated, they will have the same prize, while other prizes will be determined by standings.
Painting: Painted armies are not required, but they are encouraged! Part of the fun of an escalation league is to build your army up as you go, so it can be a great challenge to keep up on painting and make hobby progress as the games ramp up in size.
