In the grim darkness of the 3rd millennium, there are only stay at home orders. Working from home and social distancing has kept humanity from convening to play with their toys together. So, in order to overcome this, mankind has decided to hobby... together… separately…
Entry Fees
$5 for entering into only ONE category
$8 if you enter into both categories
Prize Primary Categories
Best “Hero” - Character models with the “Infantry” keyword. HQs and Elites. No Monsters or Vehicles
Best Multi-Model Unit - For this category I’m thinking infantry units of 3 models or more. For any unit that has a minimum squad size of greater than 5, you can paint/submit 5 models. (i.e. you can paint 5 Ork boys or 5 Imperial Guardsmen and I’ll count that.) Units must contain a “sergeant equivalent” model where applicable.
If you have any questions about what model(s) can be used in each category, reach out to Bryan Byers for clarification.
NOTE: No models from one category can be used as part of an entry in one of the other categories (example: if you enter a veteran sergeant for the Best Hero, then it cannot be part of your entry for the Best Multi-Model Unit)
Prize Secondary Categories (if we get enough entry fees to support more prizes)
Best kit-bash/conversion
(TBD) If enough folks want to participate, I’ll think of another cool prize to give out.
We will do our best to keep the prize support breakdown updated throughout the event.
Judging
There will be a judging council that will judge the entries at the end of the event. We will try to make sure the judges are from outside the event and our local group. However, if any of the judges have entered in the competition, they cannot vote for their own entries for any reason.
Entry Requirements
We wanted to expand the bandwidth of this event without going too far from the 40k wheelhouse, so we will allow entry of anything meant for a Games Workshop game. We would PREFER that the models be GW-produced, but might be OK with third party models made to be used with GW games (Wargames Exclusive, etc.). Please speak with Bryan before beginning work on/entering a third party miniature, so we can be sure it’s acceptable for the event. 3D printed models will be allowed.
Since we don’t want people entering models they painted years ago, we will require a minimum 3 photos be sent to Bryan for each entry:
A selfie of yourself with the pre-painted/completed model you are entering (You and the sprues or you and the built model or you and the built/primed model) Note: it cannot be a photo of you and the box for the model.
A selfie of yourself and the completed and painted model.
Any number of photos of the completed and painted model The first 2 images will just be used as proof that you built and completed this project. The image(s) for number 3 will be used for judging the entries.
If you are super opposed to taking selfies, I will accept pictures of your models resting on a sleeping cat or other pet.
Timeline
You can enter at any time after this posting by signing up on the Atomic Empire site and sending Bryan the picture of you with the project(s) you’ll be working on. This will run until the end of March, so please be sure to have your entry photos sent to him by March 31st at midnight eastern or we won’t be able to accept your entry. Judging will take place the following week and prizes will be announced then.
Questions and submissions can be sent to Bryan Byers on Facebook, Byers Warhammer on Facebook, and/or [email protected]
ALSO: If you need some motivation to paint or just want to talk 40k, we do a virtual Hobby Hangout twice a week via Google Hangouts. Our usual times are Sundays starting at noon and Tuesdays starting at 7pm. We’re usually on for a few hours or more but feel free to come and go as you please. Links are shared via the Warhammer 40k at Atomic Empire Facebook page but can also be sent directly upon request.
