Nick Balder and his younger sister Lucy are the new kids at the exclusive and legendary Belmont Friends High School just across the Potomac in suburban Virginia. Like any teens plucked from their own comfortable surroundings, uprooted from their native community and high school full of loyal friends, and forced into a new school where entrenched clicks and social hierarchies exist, difficult challenges loom.
